WAGES OF FLAX-WORKERS. By Tslegraph.—Press Association. Fox ton, Feb. 25. As a result of a stop-work meeting of flax workers to consider a 10 per cent, reduction in wages and a subsequent meeting of employers, it is probable that a compromise favorable to both parties will be effected. A stoppage of the mills at the present time would inflict great hardship on a number of families. INFANTILE PARALYSIS CASES, Carterton, Feb. 25. Two cases of infantile paralysis have occurred at Carterton, one a girl of five years, in the Beivedere district. The other is a lad of ten years residing in the Taratahi district. Both were admitted to the Masterton Hospital for treatment. FIRE AT NELSON. Nelson, Feb. 25. Fire this morning destroyed the stables of the Port horse ’bus service at Haven Road. A horse was burnt to death and three ’buses and contents were destroyed. METHODIST CONFERENCE. Auckland. Feb. 25. The. Methodist Conference has granted the Revs. Laws and Blamires permission to visit England. The Rev. T. G. Brooke was reappointed home missions general secretary, and the Rev. G. Bond and Mr. J. Veale were reappointed treasurers.
