British firms doing business in Australia'are strongly opposed to the abolition of the Department of Overseas Trade recommended , by the Geddes Commission. Their association cabled the president, of the British Board of Trade that they consider the proposal suicidal, and emphatically urging the continuance of the department, which is of vital importance in order to maintain British prestige and further develop trade between Britain and Australia, particularly in view of the renewal of trade with Germany and intensified American competition. —Aus.-N.Z.
