REVOLT IN PORTUGAL.

OFFICIALS IN A FORTRESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Feb. 22, 5.5 p.m. Capetown, Feb. 21. It is reported that the Portuguese Government has brought troops from the provinces to Lisbon in readiness to avert a contemplated militarist revolutionary outbreak, which was expected on the 19th inst. A later message states that all is quiet, but the President and the Government remain in a fortress at the mouth of the Tagus. It is stated that republican guards are concentrated at the arsenal with howitzer batteries and machine-guns in readiness for any emergency.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
