ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 21. An epidemic of petty thieving is passing fh- ’iigh this district and the public should take the precaution of having valuables safely deposited. It is reported that while away picnicking on Sunday the residence of Mr. Knowles, Climie Road, was entered and money and valuables taken. On the same day in Eltham two residences were entered and cash was taken. x The following is the state of the poll in connection with the combined bands Queen Carnival. Juvenile: Miss D. Marchant 8466, Miss White 5314, Miss laylor 4926, Miss Henrickson 2826. The next date for publishing the votes recorded will be on March 13, and the (•u-i’n'- date of the carnival has been fixed for March 25. Mr. Goldstone, who was recently burnt out, has purchased Mr. Shipton's drapery business and will take over immediately the stocktaking has been completed. The drapery business is well represented in Eltham, but still another will commence operations here next, week. Mr. C. C. Ward, of New Plymouth, having made arrangements for the buildings at one time occupied by Mr. Goldstone.
