CHEMISTS’ CONFERENCE.
PUBLIC MATTERS DISCUSSED. SALE OF MEDICATED WINES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. ' The Pharmaceutical Societies’ ence reiterated the demand that dispensing in hospitals should be dons by qualified chemists only. In regard to the sale of medicated wines in no-license districts, the chemists’ defence association reported that as the Attorney -General had stated he could not advise Cabinet to submit to Parliament an amendment to the legislation on the lines suggested by the association, namely that the best way out of the difficulty would be to standardise all medicated wines by the addition of a specified quantity of medicament, rendering them unfit for use as a beverage, the association had decided to support no more cases in nolicense districts. The conference endorsed the association’s action and approved a proposal to bring the matter before the Government. It was resolved to urge an amendment to the Pharmacy Act that chemists and enrolled managers be compelled to display a certificate or reg ration. A Canterbury remit recommending the Pharmacy Board to encourage apprentices to take a course in first aid was amended to read that a recommendation be made to the master chemists and chemists’ assistants guilds. 1 Arising from a Wellington remit the< conference approved of action oy individual chemists in refusing to market goods not approved by their divisions. An Auckland remit was carried urging that the formation of a proprietary articles retailers’ association be forwarded with greater vigor. Other remits dealt with pharmaceutical education. An Auckland remit was adopted declaring that university colleges in each centre be asked to provide lectures for students, such lectures to be compulsory, together with a request that the Pharmacy Board take immediate action, and in the event of the Auckland proposals being found unworkable the board should frame a scheme for the establishment of a scaool of pharmacy, such scheme to .be laid before the divisions for discussion. The conference also endorsed an Auckland remit favoring an amendment of the law to enable Sunday hours V* be fixed by requisition.
