THE NEW PARTY.
ITS POLICY OUTLINED SPEECH BY MR. WILFORD.’ / By Tekgrapb.—Press Association Wellington, Last Night. Speaking at a meeting at Petone tonight Mr. T. M. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) said: “Mr. Massey’s party and Mr. Holland’s party in our opinions represent extremes, while the new party stands for all classes and not for any particular class; it wishes citizen peace and not class war. It stands for the welfare of the whole people and not of any class, and the party wishes' to attach to all men and women of moderate opinion. We believe the majority of the workers in this country are loyal citizens. “Toryism stands for the existing division of classes —the keep-us-in-our-proper-station attitude of mind. Liberalism embraces all classes and recognises no classes and is an inclusive creed, while the others are exclusive. While Toryism desires to keep and the small section of Labor to take, Liberalism desires to maintain the balance. We stand for ‘all’ the people, not ‘some’ of the people. We believe no class, great or small, rich or poor, should dictate the policy or dominate New Zealand’s fortunes. “The Tory extremists and Labor extremists are a pestilence to Society. The Labor who wants direct action, or the Tory extremist who in a stike says ‘this is a chance to smash unions’ are outside our party. We believe in arbitration and hold that what is best in Labor is just Liberal, and what is sound in Labor is the application of Liberal principles.”
