The villagers of Ober-Ammergau are agitated over the keen bidding -of American film producers for the rights to take a film of the Passion Play. One magnate offered 70 million marks. The villagers decided that they would not permit any filming of the sacred product tion. [The Ober-Ammergau Passion Play is produced in a small village in Bavaria. It originated in 1634 and is performed in a large open-air theatre every tenth year. The play lasts seven or eight hours and, in 1910, was witnessed by 200,000 people. All the actors, nearly 700 in number, belong to the village. It is really a religious ceremony, hence apparently the refusal of money for film rights.]
