QUICK-STEP COMPETITION. WON BY INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the presence of twelve spectators at the’Athletic Park on Saturday twenty-two bands took part, in the quick-step competition and massed bands display. The competition was divided into two sections, 200 points being allotted to drill and march discipline and 100 to music. Colonel Beere, Major Johnston, Captain Williams and Sergeant-Major Laffey judged the military operations and H. Shugg (Melbourne) the music. The competition occupied six hours. Results:— Invercargill Hibernian, marching 1892, music 92—total 281 J. Wellington Tramways, 171, 88 —259. Wanganui Garrison, 1664, 86 —2525. First Canterbury M.R., 1612, 90 — 2512-

Gisborne City Band, 1654, 79 —2474. Hastings Town Band 171, 72 —243. Auckland Military Band, 1622, 79 — 2412. Woolston Brass Band, 1552, 83— 2382. Palmerston North Municipal, 1682, 67 —2352. Marton Municipal 1642, 70—2342The remainder, in order of merit', were: Wellington Artillery, Westport Garrison, Hamilton Municipal, Second Otago Regiment, Wellington Waterside Workers, Masterton Municipal, Queen Alexandra, Hawera Citizens, Fourth Wellington Regiment, Christchurch Tramways, Nelson Silver, Wellington Patriotic Society.
