FIGHTING IN CHINA.
A WARNING FROM JAPAN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —uoD'rlght. Tokio, Feb. 17. A message from Vladivostock says it is officially reported that . the Chita Reds. 10,000 strong, reoccupied Habarovik on Monday, after two days’ hardfighting. The whites are retreating south. The Vladivostock Government is alarmed and is discussing measures to cope with the threatening situation. The Japanese command has notified the Whites that they will be compelled to disarm* the defeated army in the event of it entering the Japanese zone according to agreement with the Chita Government. This notification is greatly Intensifying anti-Japanese sentiment here. The approach of spring means the approach of a life and death struggle for the last anti-Commnnists left on Russian soil.
The Dairen conference is attempting to reach a final agreement prior to the Genoa Conference, but it sticks at three points, namely, Japan refuses Nikolaievsk and wants the date for dismantling Vladivostock fprts left open; Japan is insisting on immediate disarming; Japan wants Chita to recognise the continuance of the old fishery treaties, which the Whites want to refer to Moscow.
