URENUI SPORTS. A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. Favored by the splendid sunTmer weather prevailing on Saturday, the picturesque Urenui recreation ground was the rendezvous of a large ctowd from the surrounding districts, on ,tte occasion of the Urenui Sports Club’s annual gathering. The whole district north of Waitara was represented, and as the various chopping and running events were well contested, an<L were run off to time, the public had an enjoyable day. This was assured also by the fact that the fields in all events were large and the finishes, both in heats and finals, were very close, the interest, especially in the chopping events, being very great. Mr. R. Tate, as starter, against dispatched his fields well, as did Mr. C. Wilson in the chops, whilst the judges, Messrs. R. Pigo-tt and A. H. Halcombe, had an arduous day, their work not being rendered any the easier by Mr. C. A. Burke, as handicapper, having succeeded in bringing his fields close together. Only on one occasion was their decision at all queried, and that was In the second heot of the twelve inch chop; some holding that R. W. Larsen should have been placed first. Messrs. A. Spurr, as Press steward, C. Wilson, V. H. Fuller, as marksmen, and W1 Karipi, as clerk of the course, all did their work well, whilst Mr. G. N. Skfelton as marshal, kept everything up to the moment.
