MR. ANDREW FISHER IN POLITICS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright London, Feb. 16. Mr. Andrew Fisher, late Australian Premier and High Commissioner, has placed himself in the hands of the Labor Party as a candidate for Kilmarnock. Mr. Fisher will attend a meeting of 200 delegates on Saturday, when the selection of a candidate will be dealt with. , t tf.-. WAGE REDUCTIONS. London, Feb. 16. The Transporters’ Conference rejected the proposed wage cuts and authorised the negotiations committee to endeavor to avoid a serious rupture. Another meeting with the employers was arranged. PILFERING ON SHIPS. London, Feb. 15. It is authoritatively stated that the pilferage of goods in transit by seagoing vessels, which had previously shown great increase, is now diminishing, particularly at Liverpool, in consequence of effective action by the shipping companies and the altered conditions after the war. AMERICAN SOLDIERS’ BONUS. Washington, Feb. IG. ‘ President Harding has sent a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee declaring that the soldier bonus could be postponed until a more favorable time, unless Congress was willing to adopt a general sales tax. The letter makes it doubtful if the bonus will be passed, as there is strong opposition to the sates tax. SWEDISH HELP FOR RUSSIA. Stockholm, Feb. 16. Parliament voted a million kronen for Russian famine relief.
