Australian unsalted is quoted at 134 s to 138 s. The cheese market Is firm at late rates. LONDON MARKETS. Received Feb. 17, 8.5 p.m. London, Feb. 16. Wheat cargoes arc firmly held on higher United States and Canadian advices, but buyers are pausing; 5600 tons on Australian steamer February-March at 565, parcels 6d higher, but there is poor trade. Spot trade is quiet and occasionally firmer. Flour is flrun; Australian 44s to 44s 6d. Barlej’ is quiet and steady. Oats are firm and rather dearer. Peas and beans are firm and unchanged. Sugar is unchanged. ENGLISH WOOL MARKET. Received Feb. I'7, 8.5 p.m. London, Feb. 16. The Bradford wool market is quiet and quotations are easier; good 64’s 49d to 51d; ordinary 45d to 48d; 58’s 37d to 38d; 50’s 21d; 40’s 12d. At the B.A.W.R.A. wool sales at Hull there was a good attendance and keen competition. All good sorts reached about last week's Liverpool parity. Inferiors and faulties were irregular at 5 to 10 per cent, lower. LONDON METAL MARKETS. Received Fob. 17, 10.25 p.m. London, Feb. 16. Copper.—Spot £6O Ils 3d; forward £6O Us 3d. Lead.—£2o 10s and £2O 10s. 1 Spelter.—£24 and £24 12s 6d. Tin.— £149 2s 6d and £l5l 2s 6d. Silver.—33 7-8 d per ounce. SOUTHERN MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. There was a good deal of fowl wheat in this season’s threshings, and fairly large quantities are being offered by. farmers, and merchants are quoting 4s to 4s 3d per bushel country stations for prompt delivery. Offerings of oats so far have been small. One or two very fine saunples have Deen übmitted, and although heavy yielders are exexceptional one or two splendid returns are reported. It is stated tn one district the crop threshed out at 91 bushels to the acre, while another crop in the same district yielded iS bushels. Tl:e market has finned slightly. A grade Gartons are now quoted at 2s to 2s 5%d, and Algerians Is lOd to 2s 2d. Barley is meeting With hardly any inquiry. New white clover is now coming on the market and is selling at 9d to lid per lb.

There is no Improvement as regards potatoes. A local merchant stated to-day that growers arc offering freely, but buyers are holding off. The price is now £3 10s to £3 15s. Although in the aggregate blight will have little effect on the yield the lesser area planted will bring down the output to requirements, and the belief is that if there is any further recession in values it will not be to much extent. The new crops of onions should begin to come in in about a fortnight. The fact that Auckland is shipping a fair quantity to Vancouver should have a good effect on the local market. The latest reports are that the cocksfoot harvest is much better than anticipated a few weeks ago, .but it is very hard to place any lines above 4%d per pound. LONDON MEAT MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd. have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 15th instant: — Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton £2 2s per cwt.; good beef, £2 Is 3d per cwt.; mixed £1 16s per cwt. Market active. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Lamb, 10’4d per lb.; wether and anaiden ewe, light 7 l-8d per lb., heavy 6%d per lb. ; ewe, light 6 l-8d per lb.’. heavy 5 7-8 d per lb. Market slow. Beef.—No change in market.
