The wife of Mr. Gerald Bevan, chairman of the City Equitable Insurance Company, which is in liquidation, states that her husband’s sudden departure from London was taken under doctor’s orders. His present address has not been published. BRITISH UNEMPLOYED RELIEF. London, Feb. 15. Mr. MacNamara informed the House of Commons that the condition of unemployment necessitated a further six weeks extension of relief from February 22, but the funds would be conserved for those in real need of assistance. U.S. IMMIGRATION RESTRICTIONS. Washington, Feb. 14. The House Immigration Committee voted to extend the present three per cent, restrictive immigration laws till June 13, ’923. This action indicates that the committee is unable to decide on a permanent immigration policy. CONTEMPT OF COURT FARCE. London, Feb. 15. Messrs. Bigland and Bottomley applied against each other under the rules governing committal for contempt of court, in respect of publications bearing on the impending trial of Bigland for alleged incitement to extortion. Bigland was fined £lO and Bottomley £lOO, each paying costs.
