PLUNKET SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly committee meeting of the Plunket Society was held on Monday afternoon. There were present: Mesdames Home (in the chair), Newton King, Nicholson, Millar, Vajentine. Cock, Hay, Jenkin, T- Shaw and the hon. secretary (Mrs. Stuart, Ruseiel). Apologies were received from Mesdames W. Weston, Wade, Ambury and Standish. The car committee reported that the Plunket car had been splendidly painted and renovated by Mr. Butcher and the committee instructed the secretary to write a very sincere letter of thanks to Mr. Butcher for his voluntary help to the society. The car has been thoroughly overhauled and is in splendid running order. The nurses reported for the month of January: —No. of babies on list, old 192, new 1'8; visits paid to homes, old cases 184, new 63; visits received at office, adults 225, babies 186; advice to expectant mothers, 12; telephone calls, 26; letters received and answered. 3; visits to Waitara 4, Inglewood 4, Stratford 5, Okato 1. A letter was read from the secretary of the ./aitara branch thanking the ladies of the New Plymouth Committee for their generous gifts on Waitara mart day. The secretary stated that ehe had sent photos of haby Spence, showing progress made under the nurses’ care during the last four months, to her Excellency Lady Jellicoe, who had naked to be informed from time to time about the baby’s progress. It was decided that in future the two nurses be given their leave during two consecutive months, and that the secretary be instructed to apply to the Central Council for the services of a relieving nurse. Each member of the committee kindly offered to cut several sets of Plunket patterns and there will soon be a big supply on hand again in the rooms. The nurse asked that sheets be made for the cot in the rest-room, and Mrs. Home offered to buy the material, and Mrs. T, Shaw said she would make and embroider the Plunket initial on them. With reference to the use of emulsion the secretary stated that the nurses had informed her that the results from the use of it were most satisfactory, and it was decided that a standing order for a case to be sent every six weeks be given during the summer months. , , .. With regard to visits to Okato, the secretary was instructed to write and ask the secretary there whether it would be satisfactory to the Okato Committee if the nurse were to attend only when sent for, or would they prefer the visit® continued fortnightly.
