THE PEOPLE’S. MONTAGUE LOVE IN “THROUGH THE TOILS.” It is seldom given to picture-goers to witness such a perfection of acting as that of Montagu Love, the famous star, who plays a ; dual role in the powerful photoplay “Through the Toils,” screening at the People’s to-night. The story in a way is quite unique. Lewis Moffatt, a veteran novelist, conceives the diabolical scheme of bringing tw’O young people together as lovers, and then through lies and suggestion tearing them apart, in order that he may analyse their sufferings, and get ideas for his life-long dream—i.e., a novel that will be a master creation. The plot is well conceived, and faithfully carried out on the screen. The acting of Montague Love, as Lewis Moffatt, the veteran novelist, and as Noel Graham, his male victim, is a revelation. “Through the Toils” is a picture which is intensely human, and one that contains a story, a story moreover that is within the bounds of reason and possibility. A big two-reel century comedy and ’gazettes are also on the bill. EVERYBODY’S. LAST NIGHT OF BLANCHE SWEET AND GLADYS WALTON. Blanche Sweet, who is “The Girl in the- Web,” concluding at Everybody’s to-night, is accused of so many crimes that, in self defence, she has to* turn detective and catch the criminals. Miss Sweet plays the role of social secretary to Mrs. Samuel Van Zile Janney. She is accused of stealing her jewels, kidnapping her grand-daughter and alienating the affections of the child’s father, who has quarrelled with his wife. There were many detectives working on the ease, but ’it was Blanche Sweet who caught the thief and aided in rescuing the child. After her name is cleared “The Girl in the Web” says “Yes” to her hero, enacted by Nigel Barrie. Gladys Walton is delightful in her latest "Universal romantic comedy-drama.. “Desperate. Youth.” To-morrow’s change presents Lionel Barrymore in “Jim the Penman.”
