The Daily Mail says the prospects of a satisfactory settlement of the Egyptian system are brightening. The Cabinet informed Lord Allenby that, subject to guarantees that British interests, trade routes and foreign affairs will be safeguarded, they do not object to Sarwat Pasha’s policy, which involves the abolition of the protectorate and its replacement by a form of constitutional government. It is acknowledged that the task of securing guarantees from any Government which ignores the extremists’ demands will be a difficult matter.
