SERIOUS BUSH FIRES.

DAMAGE IX NELSON DISTRICT SAWMILLS INVOLVED. By Telegraph—Pros Association. Nelson, Last Night. On Sunday bush fire* started in Sherry Valley and on Monday had reached serious dimensions, when Bryant’s sawmill at Ttri, together with £5OO worth of stacked timber was totally destroyed. Houses in the vicinity of the mill were also endangered and their contents were removed. Fortunately the fire failed to reach them. All milling timber in the locality was also destroyed. Bargent’s mill in the Slippery Creek road had a narrow escape. The loss is a serious one to Bryant, who had no insurance either on the mill or on the stacked timber. Information from Tni to-day states that the fires are subsiding. There is r.o wind and there are indications of rain.
