TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICANS. SPORTS AT GISBORNE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. An athletic meeting held to-day in honor of four of the Springboks (Oosterlaak, Bukes, Leathern < and Emery) was very successful. The weather was fine. The visitors put up a good showing, but the local men’s handicaps were a big obstacle. In the 100 yards Bukes won the second heat, but was unplaced in the final. In the 600 yards Leathern was fourth. The 75 yards Poverty Bay championship was a good race, Oosterlaak beating Bukes by two feet in 7 4-ssee. The 300 yards was won by Oosterlaak, with Bukes second, in 32 4-ssec Leathern annexed the 1000 yards, winning by fifteen yards in 2min. 22 I-ssec. The relay race was won easily by Poverty Bay owing to the visitors dropping the baton. URENUI SPORTS CLUB. MEETING ON SATURDAY. A trip to Urenui is at all times an enjoyable experience, and there should be a large attendance at that popular resort on Saturday next, when the Urenui Sports Club will hold its annual athletic gathering. Those who have visited this meeting in past years have pleasant recollections of previous sports, admirably conducted and controlled by an efficient set of officials, whose aim is to encourage good sport and to see that all spectators have an enjoyable time. They have succeeded In the past, and it Is their aim to see that the same high standard is maintained. A splendid programme has been drawn up, and an excellent response has been made by running men. A feature of these sports is the chopping events, in which some skilled performers will he pitted against each other. Complete arrangements have been made by the committee in the preparation of the track, etc., whilst the catering and other items associated with a picnic gathering have received attention, hot water being arranged for free. The musical programme has been entrusted to the Waitara Brass Band. The first event of a varied programme will start at 11 a.m.
