THE RAND STRIKE.
RELEASE OF LEADERS REFUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Capetown, Dee. 13. The Supreme Court in Pretoria refused an application for the release, on ibai'l, of Shaw and four other strike leaders who were arrested on the Sth inst. Boydell, t'he leader of the Labor Party, is the latest to be arrested. The men are preparing for a three months’ strike. —Aus.-N-Z. Cable Assn. A MORE SERIOUS’ STAGE. Capetown, Feb. 13. Very few men responded to the appeal to return to work in the gold mines, which are heavily picketed. As the result of t'he rejection of General Smuts’ proposals it is feared the strike is entering on a more serious stage. A Reuter message says that about 50 pickets have been arrested and allowed out on bail. The stamps are now working in four or five mines, and it is expected more will start to-morrow.
