Asquith (Liberal Leader) opens the debate on the Geddes economy report to-day, and moves an amendment to the Address-in-Reply condemning Ministers’ extravagance and their failure to reduce the crushing burden of taxation, which is necessary to stimulate trade and reduce unemployment. The Daily News asserts that Cabinet is acutely divided over the defence reduc-tions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE ADMIRALTY’S PROTEST. London, Feb. 12. Mr. Amery accepts responsibility for the publication of the Admiralty’s reply to the Geddes Committee’s report which is “gravely misleading and dangerous in mp-’y respects.” It was necessary to issue a definite correction immediately. Tt is stated unofficially 1 that Lord Beatty is mainly responsible, also for the publication simultaneously with the Geddes report, without asking the consent of the Cabinet, which would have been refused.
