YACHTING.

THE SANDERS CUP. By Telegraph. Pre«« Association Dunedin. Last Night. Great interest was manifested in the fiftt of the series of races for the Sanders Cup on Saturday afternoon, the wharves and other vantage points being thronged with spectators. At the start of the races a slight south-east breeze was blowing, out shortly after this changed to a moderate north-easter. The Heather completed the first round 25 seconds ahead of the Murihiku and 2% minutes ahead of the Desert Gold. The Otago boat held* the lead throughout the second round, closely attended by the Murihiku, but the Desert Gold dropped further hack, being 3% minutes to the bad when the last round was commenced. Running before the wind the Heather’s spinnaker was ripped and the Murihiku took the lead. A great race ensued to the finishing post, the Heather gradually overhauling the Murihiku, the latter just squeezing home by 2 seconds. The Heather’s crew entered a protest against the Murihiku on the ground that she crossed the training wall, contrary to the conditions laid down, which had the effect of giving her a commanding position at the finish. The committee inspected the position this morning and dismissed the protest.
