NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

MORE RECORDS BROKEN, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The national swimming championship carnival concluded on Saturday in splendid weather, before a large attendance. The principal event, the 440 yards championship, was won by Cunnold (Auckland), with Bachelor (Canterbury) second and Claridge (Wellington) third. Time, smin 44 4-5 sec—a New Zealand record. In the heat 100 yards ladies’ handicap Miss Hoeft (scr.) covered the distance in 64 3-ssec, which is said to be wlthiq Fanny Durack’s best time. Miss Walrond (Bsec) and Miss Mather (13sec) dead heated for second. Final of 100 yards intermediate boys' championship.—Fairgray (Auckland) 1, Bachelor (Canterbury) 2, Claridge (Wellington) 3. The ladies’ half-mile swimming championship of New South Wales was won easily by Mina Wylie in 13m’.n 52sec. The absence of Fanny Durack, the holder of the title, robbed the event of much interest. THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. SATURDAY NIGHT’S CARNIVAL. Under favorable weather conditions, and In the presence of a large crowd, the New Plymouth Swimming Club held a very successful carnival on night. The events were well filled, pi ling good finishes, and a number of novelty races added variety to the programme. An exhibition of diving by Mr. A. H. Blennerhassett, and a display of fancy swimming by Messrs. P. Mathieson and N. A. Christiansen were greatly appreciated. The demonstration of Monte Cristo diving by Mr. Christiansen was a very interesting item.

The committee’s arrangements for the carrying out of the programme were good, and the events were got off with promptitude. The officials were: Judges, Messrs. A. R. Standish and C. Brown; timekeepers, Messrs. V. Dalgleish and J. Bennett; call steward, Mr. F. J. Eggleton; marksman. Mr. G. Bertrand; recorder, Mr. R. Bally; judge of diving, Mr. Blennerhassett. The secretarial duties were carried out by Mr. K. Stohr. Financially the carnival was also a satisfactory venture for the club. Details of the events are:

Learners' Handicap Race (boys under 14). First heat: G. F. Gayton, 2sec., 1; M. J. Rea, 3sec„ 2. Three starters. Second heat: J. Galbraith, 2sec., 1; R. H. Gayton, 10sec., 2. Three starters. Final: G. Gayton and Galoralth, dead heat, 1. Time, 27 2-ssec.
