KILLING OF CALVES. Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Brisbane, Feb. 10. The Premier strongly deprecated the action of certain large stock-holders deciding, as‘the result of the unpromising outlook for the sale of cattle, to. kill calves in order to reduce their incometax liabilities. He declared that the action was detrimental to the stockholders themselves and injurious to the State as a whole. He suggested a compromise on the incidence of taxes. VENEREAL DISEASES. Melbourne, Feb. 9. The inter-State conference on venereal diseases resolved in favor of legislation requiring the production of medical certificates of freedom from diseases from each contracting partyWefore a marriage could bp performed by any legally authorised person. Other resolutions favored a campaign with the object of more effectively instructing the public with a view to co-operating with medical men in dealing with these diseases. THE BADAK CASE. Melbourne, Feb. 10. Chief Justice Irvine has ordered £lO9 6s, taken by the police from Orton in connection with the Badak case, to be returned. He added that- the charges on which he was arrested gave no justification for the police retaining the money, whatever the result might be. PLAGUE REGULATIONS. Sydney, Feb.. 10. Among the new plague regulations no produce likely to harbor rats must leave Sydney unless contained in anti-rat wrappings. COPPER MINES CLOSED. Adelaide, Feb. 10. As less than 300 of 800 men are required for the resumption of work at the Wallaroo Moonta mines under an agreement whereby wages are regulated by prices, the copper mines will probably continue to remain closed. RED LABOR IN SYDNEY. . Sydney, Feb. 10. The Labor Council has decided td affiliate with the Red International at Moscow, adopting the latter’s revolutionary measures for the overthrow of capitalism.
