SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS.
(Contributed.) A lecture was given at the mission tent last Thursday evening on "War to (yrttse for one thousand years.” The Bible foretells s time when war will cease. Tn the course of the lecture the speaker spoke of three wars. The first was in the eternity of the past. "There was war in heaven” said the Scripture. The combatants were Michael (Christ) and His loyal Angels, and Satan with his evil a’ngels. This was the origin of war. And while God permitted war. like all other evils, it was only that we should learn the lesson that the wages of sin were death. Human history was replete with war. Of the first warrior, "He (Nimrod) was a mighty hunter before the Lord, but he hunted and scalped men,” and as one writer said he made a crown of gold and called himself king, but not so by the grace of God. The Pharoahs the Assyrians, the Chaldeans, all possess the same spirit to rule. Of Nebuchadnezzar it was said he was the hammer of the whole earth. Alexander did likewise. In eight years he conquered the world; then sat down and wept because he had no more to conquer. The Ceazars trampled on a thousand States.
This deadly spirit burned in the bosom of Napoleon the Corsican, but men failed to learn the lesson of God’s law. “Oh that thou hadst harkened to My Commandments, then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of sea.”
And once again we were face to face, not with a war of nations, but*a* world war; for it stands written: “For My determination is to gather the nations that T may assemble the kingdoms to pour upon Mine indignation” (Zeph. 3,8). God’s proclamation of war this time: “Proclaim this among the gentiles (the wicked), prepare war, wake up the mighty, let the heathen he wakened and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat” (.Joel 3). Heathen China. Japan and India were very wide awake, and the war clouds thickened, for the demon spirit, of fight possessed men. and on Megeddo’s plain the spirits of devils were preparing for the battle of the Great Day of God the Almighty: on Esdraleon’s broad plain all the mighty men of war assembled, but not one soul survived this battle. This was a war of extinction. “Then, and not till then, shall war cease for one thousand years.” —Contributed by Pastor L. Currow.
