EXPORT OF PRODUCE.
THE USE OF MANCHESTER. AN IMPORTANT MOVE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 9. Commenting on * the formation of Manchester Guardian says it is a .very promising attack on the convention which has long neglected the port of Manchester as the obvious distributing centre for the exports of Australia and New Zealand. It i> hi obvious absurdity that meat an i dairy produce should go to London in order to reach the vast market of which Manchester is the centre. The old arrangement works splendidly except for exporters desirous of reaching the Manchester markets, in the most direct way, therefore an attempt is now being made to upset this venerable arrangement. The extent of its success may be judged from the list of recent sailings from Australia and New Zealand to Manchester. The .present scheme is opportune and fits in well with the intention of New Zealand exporters to safeguard and expand their markets. The Manchester Consignments, Ltd. has been registered with a capital of £50,000. The object of the company is to finance direct shipments of Australian and New Zealand, meat and other produce to Manchester.
