CONTROL OF PALESTINE.
OPERATING THE FRANCHISE FOR MALES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received Feb. 10, 5.5 pm. London, Feb. 9. Orders-in-Council relating to Palestine confer upon the High Commissioner powers for giving effect to -the mandate for the general administration of the country and the establishment of a national home for the Jews. Provision is made for an executive council to be chosen, but a legislative council later consisting of ten official and fifteen non-official members.
Every male citizen over twenty-five years of age receives the franchise for the legislative council. The judiciary will comprise magistrates, criminal assize, land and tribal courts, Moslem and Jewish religious courts, with a supreme court acting as an appeal court. The official languages will be English, Arabian and Hebrew, ft is specially provided that in the event of any religious community complaining that the mandate is not being properly fulfilled it may appeal to the League of Nations through the High Commissioner.— Aus.N.Z.
