PARLIAMENT.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS. THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. CONTROL OF DOMAINS. O By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Land Laws Amendment Bill was put through all stages and passed, after the Council had adopted a new clause providing that where land is State, or provisional State forest land, the lessee shall not have the right to acquire the freehold without the approval and consent of the commissioner of State forests.

Sir Francis Bell introduced the Public Reserves and Domains Amendment Bill. In moving the second reading he said there were three main provisions: Firstly, to increase from 10 to 20 the number of days on which the public may be charged for admission to any reserve; secondly, a domain board was given power to erect a public hall on a domain; and thirdly, provision was made for the exclusion of bookmakers from reserves set apart as public racecourses.

In committee considerable opposi tion was shown to the first proposa and Sir Francis Bell agreed to 15 days as a compromise.

The Bill as amended was read a third time and passed. The Council rose at 3.54 p.m. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Mr. H. W. Uru, sponsored by Dr. Pomare and the Hon. J. G. Coates, was sworn in and took his seat.

The House immediately went into committee on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill.
