LIFE-SAVING.
MEETING OF TARANAKI CENTRE. A meeting of the Taranaki head centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held last night, Mr. A. R. Standish presiding. Mr. F. J. Eggleton brought up the question of the combination of all sports bodies in New Plymouth for the purpose of securing the services of a paid secretary, and the following resolution was passed: “That a circular letter be sent to the various sports’ bodies in New Plymouth asking them to appoint delegates to meet at the Soldiers’ Club on Wednesday, March 1, to discuss the question of all clubs combining and appointing a general paid secretary.” Messrs. F. J. Eggleton and A. R. Standish were appointed delegates to the meeting. It was decided to send a letter of ‘thanks to the New Zealand Head Centre expressing appreciation of the visit of Mr. Knox to the Taranaki Centre.
Mr. Knox was appointed the Tara naki Centre’s delegate to the New Zealand Centre.
Awards, as follow, were approved: — Award of merit, Mr. K. F. Kirk, lan McHardy; Bronze Surf Medallion, Messrs. N. A. Christiansen and P. Mathieson; Bronze Medallion. lan McHardy and Miss Myrtle Mather; proficiency certificate, Miss Mather; elementary cert if }tes, Misses G. Lovegrove and V. M. Johns.
It was resolved to send a letter of mngrafiliation and an offer, of help to the newly-formed Ladies’ Life-Saving L iub. The affiliation fee was received from the Ladies’ Club.
Mr. Coleman was appointed assistant acting-secretary to the centre, and officials for the Tabor Shield competitions, to be held on February 25, were also appointed.
