BIG MATCH IN AUSTRALIA. YESTERDAY’S PLAY. By telegraph.— Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 6, 9.35 p.m. Sydney, Feb. C. The match Australia v. the Rest of Austra* lia. was resumed to-day in fine weather and on a good wicket. Australia, In their first innings, made 403 (Ryder 62, Oldfield 63, Malley 6, McDona*a 14, Armstrong not out 77). Scott took two wickets for 109, Kelleway two for 69, Hornibrook four for 108.

The Rest of Australia, who made 393 in their first innings, have lost two wickets for 179 in their second innings (Lampard 32, O'Keefe not out 87, Love not out 48). Ryder batted aggressively and played a sound innings, his score being almost exclusively made up of drives. Oldfield's innings was attractive. He hit five fours, the', score taking two hours to compile. He gave a chance when 38. Armstrong, after opening cautiously, batted aggressively. He hit six fours, and at a later stage of the Innings made some powerful drives. He batted for 133 minutes.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM WELCOMED. ARMSTRONG ON TESTS. Sydney, Feb. 6. The Australian cricketers were welcomed at a smoke concert. Mr. Armstrong stated that if he was back in England he would repeat what he said previously. He thought England did not pay a compliment to Australia by refusing to play out the tests nor when requested to postpone the third test for the inter-Univeraity match. He though* that four days were sufficient to finish a test, also that there were not enough active players on the English Board of Control.

SOUTH TARANAKI PLAY. In the Soutli Taranaki competitions on Saturday Elthain played Okaiawa at Taumata Park, winning by 183 to 80 on the first innings. For Eltham Fearon made 49 and C. Little 77. Penny (41) was the chief scorer for Okaiawa. Playing on Okaiawa compiled 72 for eight wickets in a second innings.

The two Hawera teams, Excelsior and Midlands, met at Hawera, the victory going tc the former team by 73 runs. Excelsior made 225 for nine wickets (McCarthy 90, Jarvh 32), and Midlands 152 (Beechey 57, Worrall 29).

The Waverley A team defeated Patea B, at Waverley, by 60 runs. Waverley compiled 107 (Bradmore 33, McMurray 36, Harper 15). Patea made 47, Forster (13) being the only batsman to reach double figures.

In the junior division Manaia B defeated Eltham B by 71 runs.
