HELP FOR FARMERS.
KEW PROPOSALS CONCERNING MORTGAGES. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. An informal committee of members was formed this week to consider the requests that have been made by representatives of dairy farmers. The committee consisted of Messrs. H. Poland (Ohinemuri), A. McNicol (Dannevirke), J. McCombs (Lyttelton), F. F. Hockly (Rotorua), and J. A. Young (Waikato) After considering the position, the committee has decided to place the -following suggestions before the Prime Minister: “Thai the Government appoint officers to act as mediators or adjusters, with a vieW to arranging (1) the postponement, wholly or in part, of interest due or becoming due, the period of the suggested postponement not to be beyond January 31, 1923; (2) the readjustment of existing mortgages by mutual consent of the parties concerned; (3) if the parties agree mutually to a reduction of mortgages, the Commissioner of Stamps shall be empowered to remit, at his discretion, the payment of the gift duty; (4) where an application for the hearing of reasons for the postponement of payment of interest is received by the officer to be appointed, all legal processes shall be stayed. until the application has been adjudicated upon by the mediator, provided that all applications for postponement of interest shall be in the hands of the officer appointed on or before March 31, 1922, and provided futher that all applications shall be heard and determined on or before June 30, 1922.
