ATHLETICS

CLIFTON FOOTBALL CLUB SPORTS. SECOND GATHERING TO-DAY. The sports meeting to be held at Waitara to-day by the Clifton Football Club promises to be easily the best held in Taranaki for some years. Entries are large in every event, and as the prize money is good in both the running and cycling events, there should be keen competition. All the best men in Taranaki will be up against visitors frdln Auckland, Blenheim, Taihape arid Palmerston North, but the handicapper appears to have done his work so well that it is impossible to forecast the winners with any degree of accuracy. The first event will start at 12.30 p.m., and the programme has been arranged so that all the running and cycling events will be got off in time to catch the afternoon train for South Taranaki. Luncheon will be procurable on the ground, and a programme of music will be dispensed by the Waitara Brass Band.
