In the Badak case, counsel for the Crown stated that the Board of Directors on July 27 received a cable from Scarborough that the results secured were valueless, and it was decided on August 15 to make the news public. In the meantime, Clarke had an opportunity to uriload shares for himself and three friends. It is understood that Clarke made more than £160,000. To-day Orton, the mining engineer, issued a writ for £lO,OOO damages against Superintendent Nicholson, Chief Commissioner of Police, for withholding certain money which was in Orton’s possession when he was arrested in Queensland. . <3.
