THE McGIRR CONTROVERSY. MAY CAUSE A SPLIT. BASIC WAGE REVIEW. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Feb. 2, 9.50 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 2. A conference of sixteen unions affiliated to the Australian Labor Party has been convened to consider the action of the executive in connection with the endorsement of Mr. McGirr for the Sydney seat. This will be followed by ft conference of all the unions and prominent officials, who declare that unless McGirr’s selectidn is endorsed, industrialists will break away and ask Mr. McGirr to lead the Labor Party, independent of the present party. The Board of Trade is sitting to decide whether it has power to review thg basic wage more frequently than once yearly. The Government is opposed to a further review, and is represented by counsel.
