WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Jan. 31. Stock is coming to hand very slowly at the local freezing works, especially as regards beef. It is believed the cause of this is the plentiful supply of feed, and the farmers are in the happy position of putting every pound of beef on with the anticipation of reaping the benefit later on, on a rising market.

Tim programme provided by the Clifton Football Club sports committee has brought large entries in each race, and it is expected that there will be close finishes. Providing the day is fine, good sport will be provided, but at the time of writing the weather is not too good. _ Mr. Pitman, the manager of the local pipe company, has cabled to say that he is staying in Australia, where he went for a month’s holiday. No doubt this gentleman procured a billet which will enhance his sphere of capabilities.

It is reported that Mr. Bryant, of Raglan, has given a farm fronting on the ocean near Raglan and a large sum of money to provide a convalescent home for sick children whose parents are in poor circumstances.

Mr. A. H. Hawkins, after two months’ holiday, resumed his managerial duties at the Bank of New Zealand on Monday. Mr. Leys, who has been relieving, leaves for Kimbolton on Wednesday.
