STANDING TOGETHER.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. By Tslegraph. AssodstiM Wellington, Last Night. A most enthusiastic civic reception Was given to Rear-Admiral Dumeresq and Flag-Captain Feakes and officers of HJf. A.S. Melbourne. The Mayor (Mr. Wright, M.P.) presided. Mr. Massey and Mr. wilford were present, the Prime Minister extending a welcome on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand. In his reply Admiral Dumeresq said it would be well to remember that navies were necessary, and the old saying that trade followed the flag. There was an insepar- x able link between them. The admiral made a strong plea for closer co-operation between New Zealand and Australia, and' hoped there would be an interchange of v visits between the navy units. Co-opera-tion between Australia and New Zealand would benefit both. “Mutual defence, hand in hand, should be the policy of Australia and New Zealand,” said Mayor Wright.
Mr. Massey hoped New Zealand and Australia would always stand together.
