A BANK CLERK’S LAPSE.

THEFT AND FORGERY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 31. A young maru aged eighteen, employed at the National Bank, was charged in the Police Court with th'eft and forgery, involving nearly £340, and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Accused admitted* that he stole a cheque and opened an account of his own in the Savings Bank. He subsequently withdrew the money. Then he drew a cheque for £250, forging the name of a Chinaman. This he also deposited in his (own name in the Savings He realised that he had done wrong and burned his hank book. The name of the accused was ordered not to be published on account of his youth.
