LONDON THEATRES.
PLAYS DROP LIKE LEAVES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 28. The London theatres are faced with the heaviest frost experienced, plays dropping like autumn leaves. Eleven were withdrawn last week, and it wat, never more difficult to find successes. The position is variously attributed to the high priced seats, the entertainment tax, hard times and the cinemas. The Covent Garden, Empire and Drury Lane theatres are showing movies. The* music halls are similarly hit, and are combining to reduce the salaries of the topbillers. The managers agree that tliay muft drastically curtail, and threaten, to close a number of halls.—United vice.
