WHENUAKURA BRIDGE.

REOrENED YESTERDAY THROUGH SERVICE RESUMED. The stationmaster at New Plymouth (Mr. O’Shea) was advised yesterday morning that the Whenuakura bridge had been restored, and that through traffic would be resumed from two o’clock yesterday afternoon. The afternoon train from Wanganui yesterday crossed the new structure, but arrived at New Plymouth late owing to heavy traffic. The mail train also used the bridge, but did not reach New Plymouth until nearly nine o’clock last night, being loaded with three extra passenger cars and a heavy mail. The extra traffic, said the stationmaster, was probably the result of people waiting for the completion of the bridge before making the journey to New Plymouth.
