BOWLING.

TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. INTERSECTIONAL PLAY. NEARING THE END. Conditions for bowling in New Plymouth yesterday were all that could be desired, the consequence being that it was a great pleasure to witness some of the best play that has taken place during the Taranaki tournament. The feature of the morning’s play was Mason’s fine effort, though at all the rinks there were exhibitions of firstclass tournament play. In the afternoon the excitement increased and the games were watched by a large crowd, applause being frequent. It was a day in which the consistent players came to the front. There was an absence ot the element of luck, so that the scores fairly represent the merits of the opposing players.

The keenness and accuracy shown yesterday gave an indication of strenuous games in the concluding stages of the tournament, always provided the weather does not interfere with the greens or with play. The teams engaged in the semi-finals may all be congratulated on their excellent exhibition, whicl; was well worthy of tournament form.

A light drizzle set in about half-past five, causing the green to hold somewhat. Play was continued to a lute hour, it being 7 o’clock before the two la*t rinks had finished. Results of the intersectipnal play are: Third Round. (Fitzroy Green.) A. K. Smart (New Plymouth) 22 v. Spurdie (Inglewood) 17. Jury (Fitzroy) 18 v. Castle (Eltham) 11. Mason (Pihama) 20 V. Lambie, Masop sk.) v. New Plymouth (Roberts, Thorpe. Thomson. H. Smart sk.). New Plymouth (McLeod, Brown, Griffin, A. K. Smart sk) v. Wanganui (Hedditch, Crawford, London, Tilley sk.).
