DEBT TO AMERICA.

APPEAL TO SECURE INTEREST,

By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received January 26, 8.10 p.m. Washington, Jan. 25.

Senator Borah- participating in the debate on the Allied Debt Refunding Bill, declared that the Allies, by revising the \ ersailles Treaty and reducing their armies, even to a reasonable extent, could meet the interest payments on the debts to the United States and retire part of the principal. He added: “I maintain it is an insult to the American people tc ask them to forego any longer the collection of money that will be used for purposes, not only of destruction to the peace of Europe, but the whole world. No man, under the present policy and under the existing treaties of Europe, can foretell when these nations can begin to pay interest. The danger to Europe lies in the apparent effort to destroy Germany.”—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
