THE PORK INDUSTRY.
THE QUESTION OF
POOR MARKET IN BRITAIN.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The following statement has beer issued by the Minister for Agriculture: — “The Department of Agriculture has been making enquiries regarding the possibility of a market for frozen pork in Great Britain and in this connection a cable has just been received from the High Commissioner as followsln re« ply to your telegram of the 12th inst. the current prices for frozen pork range from 5d for very heavy carcases up to 9d for very best quality light porkers. New Zealand pork is at the moment estimated to be worth about as fol-
lows: Undpr SOlbs 9d, SOlbs to HOlbs Bd, over HOlbs 7Jd and down. The
best weight to suit the market for the pork trade is under lOOlbs and foi the bacon trade between 1 SOlbs and 180 lbs. The tendency of the downwards and. prices are cxpeZred to fall owing to plentiful supplies of Dutch, and to the fact that the number of pigs in England and Wales is greater since 1911, showing an increase oi 25 per cent over last year. The demand for frozen porkers has been limited for some time past and it is not expected much demand will exist for bacoi pigs. In any case there is no market for frozen pork whatever between March, April and September.’”
