ARBITRATION ACT.
OBJECTIONS TO AMENDMENT, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Jan. 23. A meeting of delegates to the Canterbury Trades and Labor Council and of representatives of trades- unions, convened to discuss the proposed amendments to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, passed a resolution that: The meeting strongly recommends the Trades and Labor Council to send a delegate to Wellington to protest against the interference by the Government with (1) the right of unions to appoint their chosen assessors; (2) rates of remuneration; (3) intimidation contained in Clause '2, making it an offence to dissuade workers from accepting work under the terms of an industrial award; (4) the proposal to exclude local bodies from awards; (5) undemocratic proposals contained in the provision for voting for and appointment of a workers’ ? representative on the Court of Arbitration. At the conclusion of the meeting the Trades_and Labor Council appointed Mr. H. T* Armstrong to give evidence on the lines of the resolution before the Labor Bills Committee.
