PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. AUCKLAND v._ WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 21. The Plunket Shield match was continued in fine weather and conditions favorable to the batsmen. Auckland, continuing their first innings, finished with a total of 322. McLeod made a good stand for sfi, Smith 55, and Dacre 50. The tail played good cricket, Rountree (wicket-keeper) being not out for 19, while extras accounted for 41. The Wellington fielding was weaker at the finish. Bowling analysis: Brice took 3 wickets for 71, Henderson 5 for 66, and Barclay 1 for 49. Wellington has eight wickets down for 182, compiled by steady cricket. Muddlestone made 63, Collins 41, Baker 25 and McGirr (not out) 32. Rountree was in great form behind the wickets. Sneddon took 3 for 41, Garrard 2 for 40, and Smith 2 for 54. NORTH TARANAKI PLAY. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The North Taranaki cricket competitions were advanced a further stage on Saturday, when Old Boys defeated Urenui and Western Park secured the verdict over New Plymouth in the senior games. In the junior competition wins were secured by New Plymouth, Western Park and Old Boys. Robertson
(Western Park) had the best score in the senior games With 46, Blundell (Urenui) following with 37. With the ball Eggleton (Old Boys) took 6 wickets for 23 runs, Quickfall (New Plymouth) 4 for 6, and Nieoll (New Plymouth) 3 for 10. SENIOR COMPETITION. OLD BOYS v. URENUI. In a match on the racecourse Old Boys gained the decision over Urenui by 5 wickets. Urenui batted first, compiling 88, of which E. K. Blundell was responsible for 37. Others to reach double figures were H. Foreman 16 and C. Wilson 11. Bowling for Old Boys Eggleton took 6 wickets at the expense of 23 runs, and Osborne followed this average closely with 4 for 25. Old ’Boys had 5 wickets down for 91 when time was up. The innings opened badly, as they had two wickets down for 7 runs, but 40 were added before the third fell. Western Park defeated New Plymouth by 23 runs in a match played at Weotern Park. The park team compiled 112 runs. The innings did not open very favorably as the side lost three wickets for 17 runs, but the score stood at 73 before the fourth was recorded. Of the batsmen F. H. Robertson compiled 46 when he lifted a ball from Quickfall and was caught by leaker. V. Halley (24) was the only other to reach double figures. New Plymouth opened badly, six wickets falling for 20 runs, but chiefly owing to Clarke (29 not out) and Burns (22) the score- was carried to 89 before the last wicket fell. Details: — WESTERN PARK. WESTERN PARK v. W’AITARA. Playing at the racecourse, Western Park beat Waitara on the first innings by 51 runs. Park opened, by making 96 runs (Hoffmann 26, Harrison 11). Young took three wickets for 11 runs and Skelton 5 for 36. Waitara were dismissed for 43 runs, Ballot getting 6 wickets for 9 runs and Rowe 4 for 22.
