TARIFF RECIPROCITY.
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. POINTS TO BE SETTLED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. ( Melbourne, Jan. 20. No intimation of the intended visit of the New Zealand Minister of Customs has yet been received by the Minister of Customs, in connection with tariff reciprocity. At the time the Bill was before Parliament it was understood that the negotiations were completed, but now it appears that before finality is reached some outstanding points require personal discussion between the Customs Ministers. It is regarded as certain, however, that within a few weeks a definite agreement will be reached.
The question is being discussed whether Ireland, under the new form of Government, retains the right to have goods admitted to the Commonwealth at the British preferential tariff rates. It is claimed that when she becomes a sister Dominion in the British Commonwealth her goods should be placed in the general tariff schedule and reciprocal arrangements similar to that required between other Dominions will be necessary.
