AMERICA AND ALLIES.
REPAYMENT OF DEBTS. TERMS OF REFUNDING BILL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Washington, Jan. 16. The Senate Finance Committee favorably reported on the Foreign Debt Refunding Bill, providing for the collection of eleven billion dollars loaned to the Allies. The Bill creates a commission of five to arrange the terms whereby the debt will be paid. The committee eliminated provisions to which the Treasury objected, namely for the semi-annual collection of interest and the fixing of the rate at not less than the highest rate paid for Liberty bonds. The committee will have power to arrange both matters. The measure provides that the bonds into which the debt is convertible shall mature in 1947, when the longest Liberty loan natures.—Aus.-N.Z.
