UNREST IN INDIA.
POLITICAL LEADERS CONFER. RELEASE OF AGITATORS DEMANDED. By Tel«cr*ph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Delhi, Jan. 16. The conference of political leaders in Bombay was held in private,' and was attended by over 200 delegates, representative of all shades of opinion throughout India. Sir Sankaran Nair presided. * ‘ Pundit Malaviya declared that the non-co-operation movement was spreading as the result of the Government’s mistakes and policy of wholesale repression, which he declared could not be justified. A resolution was drafted after long discussion with a view to securing a fur-> ther round table conference, which it was thought would be acceptable both to Ghandi and the Government, but Gandhi refused to subscriba to the resolution, demanding as a preliminary the release of all the agitators and a change in the Government’s policy. A number of speeches by prominent leaders followed. Eventually a subcommittee was appointed to re-draft the resolution, and the conference was adjourned.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
