VISIT OF AUSTRALIAN TEAM. TO BE LED BY MAILEY. INVITATION TO NEW PLYMOUTH. Acting on the advice received of the probability of an Australian eleven visiting New Zealand during the present season, the executive of the North Taranaki Association have considered the question of including a match at New Plymouth in the team’s itinerary should they visit the Dominion. The amount of guarantee asked, by the Cricket Council for a match is £125. This sum was readily guaranteed by those interested in the sport, and an invitation has been sent for the team to play at New Plymouth. A two days’ match is proposed. Last night the secretary of the North Taranaki Association received the following telegram from the New Zealand Council: “Negotiations not quite complete, but team will be led by Mailey, who hopes to include eight of the team which recently toured England.” .GRANT TO A TEAM’S MANAGER. At a meeting of the Cricket Association it was explained that the £lOO granted Mr. Howard, manager of the New Zealand ’team, was to recoup him money he expended during .the tour, and was not a bonus. Mr. Howard does not intend to accept the grant. MIDHIRST v. STRATFORD. The following team has been selected to represent Midhirst against Stratford at 2 p.m. to-morrow: Richmond (captain). Absolum, L. Fowler, Ingles, Davis. Rev. Witheford, Snookes, Carter, Riley, Anderson, C. Fowler, and Harkness. SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. SATURDAY’S PLAY. [Manaia visited Okaiawa and defeated the local team by 135 to 61 and 68. For Mauaia, Maunsell compiled 54. A. Hughes, Ei. Hughes and Judd each 18. Batting for Okaiawa in the first innings, Nicholls made 13, Harrison 14 (not out), and C. Whalen 13, while in the second innings Penny made 24 and Dnndas 19. Manaia B "met Hawera, and after an exciting finish, the match resulted in a draw, each side scoring 152. The Eltham seniors defeated Midlands,’at Hawera, by 144 runs. Batting first, Midlands made 10 t 6 (Beechey 37). and Eltham responded iwith 267 for 6 wickets (Cole 94). Patea gained a victory over Waverley by 169 to 93. Batting for Patea, Cunningham made 31. Tinney (retired) 58, Gibbs (run out) 29. For Waverley, Turner compiled 26, Christensen 19, and P. Christensen 17.
