BUTTER AND CHEESE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES. LATEST LONDON QUOTATIONS. Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. Ltd., have received the following cable from their London house : “Butter, salted 130 s, unsalted 150 s, market good. Government stocks of Australian now 500 tons. “New Zealand colored cheese 86s to 88s; white 84s; market improving.” The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office, under date January 13:— “Butter.—Demand good. Finest, 128 s to 130 s per cwt. “Cheese.—Fair inquiry. White, 83s to 84s per cwt.; colored, 86s to 88s per cwt.” The Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date January 13:—
“New Zealand butter, salted, £6 4s to £6 10s per cwt. Market strong. “Cheese.—£4 4s- to £4 8s per cwt. Market steady.” Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date January 12: —
“Butter market steady with a good demand, and if prices are not advanced unduly, consumptive demand will continue good; stocks will gradually clear, and will probably advance later on. Do not consider position warrants holding back stocks. Finest Australian unsalted 122 s to 1245; finest South Australian, salted, 114 s to 1165.”

In view of the Imperial stocks of Australian butter having been largely cleared, the Dairying Pool Committee has decided that no further action will be taken to secure the Government’s assistance to finance the unsold balance.
