HOUSES WANTED.
DEMAND AT LOWER PRICES. NEW RESIDENTS INQUIRING. A steady demand for houses, on easy terms, was reported by New Plymouth land agents yesterday when approached for an expression of opinion regarding activity in this business. One agent stated that he had about twenty prospective buyers. The class of dwelling sought is a four to five roomed house, and enquirers do not want to go higher than between £l2OO and £l3OO. This is accounted for by the fact that building is now cheaper. A phase of the present position in regard to deals in house property, it was stated, is that owners are prepared to accept smaller deposits and sales are being made on cash down of £lOO to £2OO. There are also more houses on the market at present than there have been for the last four years. Sales made by one agent since the resumption of the holidays include three houses to people from outside the New Plymouth district. Of the other branches of the land agency business there are practically no enquiries for farm land and there is a greatly unsatisfied demand for houses to rent.
