ATHLETICS.

ARRIVAL OF SOUTH AFRICANS. VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. By Telegraph.— Prem Association Wellington, Last Night. The South African athletic team arrived by the Maheno to-day. The members of the team are: .1. K. Ayres, Oosterlaak, J. W. Bukes, H. Kinsman, D. A. R. Leathern, R. Johnston, with Mr. Emery as manager. They were met by a large number of the athletic and general public, and were welcomed by Mr. A. T. Davies, president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, by wireless. The team accepted an invitation to compete at a sports meeting at the Basin Reserve on Monday evening. Mr. Davies communicated by wireless with the visitors’ manager asking if the team would care to participate at the meeting, and the reply stated, they would agree to compete in the iuO, 220, 600, and quarter-mile relay (four men each to run 110 yards). Arrangements have been made to include a. relay race on the programme, and the visitors will be invited to appear in the 100, 220, 440 and one mile events, provision not having been made for a race over GOO yards. The members will be accorded a civic reception on Monday, at which the Prime Minister is expected to be present. The team leave on Tuesday for Dunedin, ’There they commence their tour. The details of the tour have been revised, and the ’following itinerary has been finally adopted:— January 16.—Civic reception at Wellington; evening meeting at Basin Reserve. January 1-7. —Leave for Dunedin. January 21.—Compote a;; Dunedin. January 25. —Ashburton. January 28. —•Christchurch. February 1. —Arrive at Rotorua. February 4.—Auckland. February B.—Hamilton (two members of the team). February S.—New Plymouth (three members of the team). February 11. —Wanganui, (full team). February 15.—'Gisborne (three members of the team). February 15.—Waikanae (two members of the team). February 18.—Mast er ton. February 22.—Palmerston North. i February 25.—Wellington. : February 28. —Leave Wellington for i Svdnev, via Auckland.
